CNN Headline News ran a cool story today on a new form of mobile technology: wired benches, as in park benches. It goes something like this, you are strolling through the park and need a quick fix of the Web or need to check your email. You sit down at one of the new wired park benches being installed by MSN.co.uk and plug your laptop into the data port on the side of the bench. The service is free.

Shop Different: Retail Store in MN to Open This Weekend [Updated]

I just received this email from Apple announcing the Grand Opening celebration for their retail store in The Mall of America in Bloomington, MN this weekend. The event is being held on Saturday 11 August 2001, from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Luggage Week: Tom Bihn's Apple Bags

When it was becoming a pain to find a bag for my PowerBook G3 (Wallstreet), Tom Bihn was there, making great bags and making sure they would fit my PowerBook. Now that I have a new iBook, I am anxiously awaiting to see what he has up his sleeve, especially since the G4 stuff looks great! I wish I had a TiBook to put in the G4 Mitre!

Microsoft's Blackcomb OS Adds a Dock

I just finished watching this video (requires Windows Media Player) demonstrating the next generation of the Windows operating system that includes the controversial .Net service. Blackcomb is the code name for the OS that is going to follow Windows XP [Ed: WinXP was Whistler, Win2002 is Blackcomb, get it?]. In the demo a bar on the left side of the screen has functionality very similar to the current version of the Dock found in Mac OS X.
