In contrast to his usual secrecy, Jobs is up-front in a press release about Apple Expo Paris: no new hardware will be introduced. “My keynote will focus on Mac OS X v10.1, the super-fast new version of Mac OS X, and our revolutionary new iDVD 2 software, which lets users create their own custom DVDs that can be played on consumer DVD players,” says Jobs. “This has been an incredible new product year for Apple, so we don?t plan to launch any new hardware products in Paris this year.”

It should come as no surprise that Apple will not announce new hardware in Paris. The new hardware introduced at MacWorld was just so conservative that many think of it as not being new.

I just received my PowerBook power adapter replacement and basically noticed the same observations as everyone else. However, I’m not sure I want to make the swap. My old power adapter came with my VST charger and that’s basically what it does unless I travel and then it goes with me, because it is a much better adapter to pack than the yo-yo. Ever try to wrap the yo-yo’s power cord around it?

Free Mac Classes in Santa Ana, Ca

Rich Barron of Santa Ana College’s Marketplace Education Center wrote us to let us know that the college offers two dozen free Macintosh classes as part of their adult education program. The classes range from basic skills (in English or Spanish), through the Office 98 programs and into Photoshop, Illustrator, navigating the Internet, beginning Web design, and a new course, Macintosh Troubleshooting, designed for people who work with Macs or have one at home.
