So I have this 14″ iBook. Nice and quiet other than the HD. Now I have this new 17″ PowerBook. *HISS HISS HISS* I feel like I’m living with Salazar Slytherin! I know people keep saying “this is normal”. So here’s what I want to know? Why doesn’t it hiss if I reduce the CPU performance!? Is anyone else annoyed as hell with this!? Ed: Unfortunately, we don’t have the comments system up yet so we can’t have an open discussion on this. If anyone else is having this experience or could explain why this is happening in the first place, post a story to the Newswire. -PK

Our colleagues have left out some very good news from the same Rolling Stone article, though — but what would mostly Windows sales mean for Apple’s future? Click read more.

I had the problem Jason described on my Powerbook 17″ a few days after I purchased it. The marks on mine are most pronounced in the front right hand corner of the case. In my case, a cloth dampened with plain tap water took the marks right off. Ed: Keep us posted, folks, on how these marks are developing for you. -PK

I contacted Apple Care yesterday to have them send me two new rubber feet for my 12-inch PowerBook. Rubber feet are covered by warranty but you must send it to Apple and they will replace the entire botton of the unit. The charge is US$700 to replace two 10 cent rubber feet.
Sound familiar? Unfortunately Apple tried to address the previous PB podiatry issue by switching to “pass-through” feet (rather than adhesive mounts) but if they break off, they have to installed through the aluminum case. I thought that this issue would surface first in the PB12 because it has been shipping longer than the PB17 and because it runs much hotter – as hot as 120 degrees Fahrenheit -Ed.

How does AAC stack up against the popular alternatives and what does this mean for the quality of the Apple iTunes Music Store?
When Apple released the iTunes Music Store they made some bold claims as to the quality of AAC. Since I had read no listening comparisons of AAC to other formats, I decided to do my own tests. For those of you who are wondering what format is best to encode with, and which bit rates are ideal for certain uses, please have a read.
