iSight Becoming Extinct?

I’m trying to purchase an Apple iSight camera (US$149, M8817LL/A) and having a lot of trouble finding them. The Apple retail store in my area says it can’t get them, CompUSA and MicroCenter are out of stock nationally. The Apple Store online says “2-3 weeks” to ship them.
The funny thing is that the guy on the phone at CompUSA, kind of mumbled something like the following while he was checking inventory: “iSight…no…mmm…OH WAIT…isight to…mmmm…NOPE CANT HELP YOU! And he just hung up.
CDW had a note about iSights being discontinued on 09 August 2004, SmallDog lists it as back ordered and MacSolutions has one left (the display model.)
Is it me? Or does this sound a little phishy…
During his WWDC 2004 keynote address Steve Jobs mentioned new iSight mounts for the new LCD displays, so perhaps the current iSight is being replaced with a new SKU that ships with the new mounts? Steve also mentioned the new H.264/AVC CODEC for QuickTime will dramatically improve iSight performance in Mac OS 10.4 Tiger. -Ed
