Freescale's Dual Core G4 in a PowerBook

MacSlash has a story about Freescale working on dual core G4s. “Some people have predicted that the Dual Core G4s will be used in PowerBooks/iBooks because they are supposed to create less heat than IBM’s G5s.” For the links click through to MacSlash. Mac OS Updated to 10.3.6

Mac OS 10.3.6 Build 7R28Apple on Friday released the latest update to Mac OS X with version 10.3.6. The 10.3 update (build 7R28) is available from Apple or via the Software Update system preference. The “delta” update (Mac OS X 10.3.5 to 10.3.6) is 34MB and the “combo” update (any version of 10.3 to 10.3.6) weighs in at 92MB.

The 10.3.6 Update delivers enhanced functionality and improved reliability for Mac OS X v10.3 “Panther” and is recommended for all users.
Key enhancements include:
? improved file sharing for Mac (AFP), UNIX (NFS) and PC (SMB/CIFS) networks
? more reliable network automounts and launch of network applications
? improved OpenGL technology and updated ATI and NVIDIA graphic drivers
? additional FireWire audio and USB device compatibility
? updated Calculator, DVD Player, Image Capture, and Safari applications
? improved compatibility for third party applications
? previous standalone security updates

PowerBook G4 Aluminum Lower RAM Slot Issue

MacFixIt has been covering an issue where some readers with Aluminum PowerBook G4 computers have reported that the lower of the PowerBook’s two RAM slots is no longer recognizing RAM.
