Verizon's EV-DO Coverage Map (U.S.)David Pogue’s latest article for the New York Times goes into some of the benefits of Verizon’s ultra-fast EV-DO service, read on to find out why it kicks WiFi’s ass.

How fast is that, exactly? Verizon claims you’ll be able to download data at an average of 400 to 700 kilobits per second (kbps), which turns out to be true. That makes EV-DO at least five times as fast as the rival technology offered by Cingular and T-Mobile, called EDGE (70 to 135 kbps), and about seven times as fast as Verizon’s original data network (still available), which it calls NationalAccess (60 to 80 kbps).

When watching the WWDC 2005 keynote address this morning it appeared that the cool Apple Retail Store video from the WWDC 2005 keynote had been cut out of the Apple.com presentation. Any thoughts on why? Maybe there are royalty issues with the song (Rubberneckin’ Oakenfold remix originally by Elvis)?

Opera 8 Web Browser Released

The new Opera 8 Web browser adds a number of new features including a cleaner user interface, better security and raw speed. My favorite feature is that Opera is the only browser for Mac OS X that fully supports the Blackberry Web Client (BWC).

We’ve cleaned up our front yard. The Opera 8 interface is designed to make the advanced functions easy and effective to use. Menus, toolbars and other elements have undergone our “slim and clean”-routine. The licensed version has the largest browsing area in the industry.
Stay away from spy-ware, viruses, and other malicious applications that silently attack your computer while you are surfing the Web. For example, Opera displays security information inside the address bar, located next to the padlock icon that indicates the level of security present on a site. Opera 8 also provides protection against phishing attacks and automatically checks for security updates.
We’re holding on to our claim: “The Fastest Browser on Earth”. In Opera 8, further improvements have been made in the way the browser reads pages to allow you to fly the Web.

First, the good news: the new Ecler NUO4 has been launched, and it’s got some hot features, including completely-assignable controls so you can easily integrate computers running software like Traktor DJ or Ableton Live. See specs and details at create digital music. Assign a crossfader or knob, for instance, and you have instant software control; you can even label your assignments with included magnets. The mixer interfaces with your computer via either MIDI or USB cables.
Now, the bad news: Ecler made the customization software Windows-only. You should still be able to use the mixer without the software, but with so many DJs are Mac based, from amateurs to world-touring pros, you have to wonder what Ecler was thinking. I’ll keep you posted if I hear anything.
