Cooler weather is here and before I step out to Mtn-Bike or Backpack here’s a little something-something for you weekend readers… a brief summary of what is going on out there in our silicon-tapestry of life:
GoFish will be releasing a new type of search engine on Monday, it will allow people to not only retrieve the usually text searches but media files, playlists, podcasts, video, etc., all with one search. Mozilla is slow to release version 1.5 so I’ve downloaded their Beta and in the meantime I’ve been playing around with Opera Version 8 (BTW, they’ve hit 10 years in business and unlike many they’ve survived the tech bubble fallout). For people who need a home entertaiment reciever with the ability to plug in your XM and a iPod, Pioneer has something for you. In gaming news FERAL Interactive is porting the XBox title “Fabel ” to the Mac. HP is pointing to the TV as the digital hub. By adding wireless support and software one can connect to a PC via on the couch. Not sure if this is the right approach. But imagine a 27″-42″ hi-dev TV with a integrated PDA like computer (think iMac but toned down a bit) with removable harddrive bays (similar to the HP media center). To be able to write notes and post them on the screen, update your calendar, upload digital photo albums, and keep a archive of mp3s always at your finger tips… that’s the way these companies should be thinking. And speaking of hardware for viewing pleasures… check this out; a visual heads up screen for everyday use (if you can afford one) by IO2 Technology. You can even interact with what is being displayed (think Minority Report). About time this technology has come to the masses… the future is now. Enjoy
