New PowerBooks Underwhelm

Only Apple could announce PowerBooks at the same clock speed, and PowerMacs and a lower clock speed and call it an upgrade.
There are some really cool things about the new PowerBooks announced yesterday: larger displays, support for the 30-inch Apple Cinema display, faster DDR2 memory and the 8x double-layer SuperDrive. My issue is that the new PowerBook’s clock speed is the same as it was before

    Upgraded displays, graphics cards, hard drives memory and optical drives. All at the same price points. That’s not an upgrade? I’m sure if it were feasable, the CPUs would have been upgraded too.

    I have thought for some time now that Jobs & Co. are more interested in music & gadgets than computers. They should buy out Sharper Image. I have been waiting four years for a real PowerBook upgrade.

    What a COMPLETE and total RIP!! They think we are going to “upgrade” to the SAME clock speed as from the past?!?! — Spend Thousands on the SAME crap?!?! — We diehard Powerbook-ers have been waiting ages for the breaking of the 2Ghz barrior!! — Again, What a RIP!! — This buyer is NO FOOL!! — I’d pass this round!

    I have a 15″ 1GHz Powerbook that I use 6 to 8 hours every day and have for the past 2 years. No problems, but I”m ready for an upgrade and the new 15″ 1.67GHz (last of the PowerBooks without Intel Inside) with optional 2 GB of RAM and all the other goodies works for me.

    Apple should consider switching to a different CPU manufacturer if the current one cannot increase speeds.

    Fortunately Apple has hardware monopoly, so brainwashed Maczealots will buy any PowerBook.
