I don’t often get too annoyed with Apple’s software. Sure, there are at least ten things that I can think of off the top of my head that I would like to see added to or fixed in iTunes, but I am generally satisfied with the program as it is nonetheless. However, the recent 10.4.5 update replaced the Address Book widget with something that I consider to be regressive in its function and design.

In order of annoyance… In the original widget there was a red button to launch the Address Book program. I loved this feature because it allowed me to remove the Address Book from the Dock. I am a Dock minimalist, and only frequently used essentials are allowed on my Dock. The new widget has no such button, so now the Address Book is back in the Dock. (I think) the original widget had a better search feature that allowed me to type in the first few letters of someone’s name to get their info to show up. The new widget requires me to hit enter to get that info. Yes, yes, I know, it is *such* a chore to hit enter. Anyways, the point being that searching went from a one step process to a two step process. I don’t really see the need for this. Maybe someone can enlighten me. Lastly, the previous design was of a uniform size. The new version is small when it is not in use, and then grows once you use it. Because of the placement of my widget it then blocks other widgets that I use on a regular basis. Sure, I can move it to somewhere else, and the original widget was larger, but hey, I’m ranting here! Maybe someone, still running 10.4.4 can email me the original!
