Miami — Another fantastic conference session at WMC here was given by Greg Chin (a.k.a. DJ Stryke). In it he exposed us to the wonders of Stanton’s FinalScratch 2, a combination hardware and software product that allows DJs to import all their vinyl into a laptop and play all of their records via two “control records” on traditional turntables. The process saves hauling crates of heavy vinyl from gig to gig and gives DJ’s access to features not possible with traditional vinyl.
FinalScratch 2 lets you play digital music files from any analog turntable or CD player with the natural, tactile feel and response of spinning vinyl. FS2 makes cueing, mixing and scratching feel as natural as spinning all your old school wax – without having to change records.

Miami — Dave Hill, Jr. one of the foremost experts on Ableton and author of Ableton Live 2 Power took us on a journey through Live 5 showing us how to get the most out of the software.
Live is an audio creation, production and performance application used by electronic musicians like Sasha and Gabriel & Dresden. Live 5 is a Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) that boasts a bunch of new features that add to its creation, production and performance capabilities, including improvements in remix, organization, instruments and effects.

The Apple Core: The Beatles in court (again) with Apple

apple-corps-logo.jpgThe Beatles record label, Apple Corps Ltd. was in court for the third time in as many decades with Apple Computer, Inc. this wee. The record label claims that the Cupertino, CA computer firm has breached an agreement dating back to 1991 preventing it from entering the music business. In the 1980’s Apple Corps Ltd. took Apple to court over the use of their logo.
