iLife and iWork Updated for Aperture 1.5

ilife-iwork-updates.jpgiPhoto 6.0.5 (57.7MB) contains new calendar, greeting card, and postcard themes for use with Apple print services, including a variety of holiday card designs. It also addresses compatibility for accessing Aperture 1.5 content in iPhoto.
iMovie HD 6.0.3 (6.6MB) addresses compatibility for accessing Aperture 1.5 content in iMovie HD. It also improves overall stability and addresses a number of other minor issues.

IBM/Lenovo Recalls 500,000 Notebook Batteries

Hooray, Lenovo has joined the battery recall party! For those of you keeping score at home, that brings the number of manufacturers to five, including Apple, Panasonic, Toshiba and Dell.

The recall, anounced today, affects nearly 170,000 batteries in the US, and over 350,000 additionally worldwide, according to the US Consumer Product Safety Commission.

iTunes 7.0.1′s Mobile Phone Mentions

Normally, an iTunes update wouldn’t be much news. But this one has lots of mentions of a “mobile phone” that can play video and display pictures. As far as we know, the ROKR and RAZR V3i can’t do that.

Here’s a taste of the strings:

“4301.022″ = ” ^0 was not copied because the video format is not supported by the mobile phone ^1 .”; “4301.043″ = “Are you sure you want to manually manage music and videos on your mobile phone? You will need to manually eject your mobile phone before it can be disconnected safely.”; “4301.045″ = “Are you sure you do not want to manually manage music and videos on your mobile phone? All existing content on the mobile phone ^1 will be replaced with content from your iTunes library.”;

MSN Messenger 6 adds Mac IM Interoperability

Messenger for Mac 6.0We need a universal IM protocol and we need the sotware vendors to support it. The fact that you can’t IM your friend because they’re on x service is almost is bad as the whole BluRay/HD DVD fiasco.

Microsoft on Wednesday released Messenger 6.0 for Mac, allowing Appleusers of its instant messaging software to connect to Yahoo Messengerusers. The company added that feature for PC users in July, but Mac support has been notably absent.

External Battery for Apple MacBook Pro

portable_power_station_lg.jpgRemember when external PowerBook battery packs were all the rage? Well Battery Geek has a new external battery that works with the MacBook Pro. I imagine that it’s hard to sell any notebook battery pack right now though…

The Portable Power Station by Battery Geek supplies an additional 6+ hours of mobile computing time for the MacBook Pro, according to the company. The PPS packs a 140 watt-hour capacity and uses Li-ion cells.

The Apple Core: iTunes 7.0.1 addresses Cover Flow, importing, syncing

The software update doesn’t give an indication about what the update fixes:
