Apple Reportedly Replacing MacBook Power Adapters for Free

magsafe.jpg

An entry over at digg.com reports that MacBook users appear to be receiving free replacements for their MagSafe MacBook power adapters.

The adapter, a $79 value, has come under criticism for breaking and fraying for some users.

Additional reports on comments have come in claiming that the replacement power adapters are essentially a "version 2.0" and incorporate thicker plastic with a stronger reinforcement base.

If you have any comments, feedback or recent experience with this, let us know.

Aparently apple maintinas that there is an issue with V1 of the Magsafe conenctor shipped with early macbooks and mac Book Pros but the v2 of the adapter does not have the issue. So I think they will replace the v1 adapter under warrantee. Certinaly that is the impression I got from the local apple service department here.

Man, I just threw a non functioning power supply out last week cause the 'word on the street' was Apple was not covering them. If only it had held out a week or two longer.

The Apple Store Regent Street just replaced my 3 month old MacBook Black Magsafe thing which had frayed - no questions asked. Apple do have a problem with their PSUs, I had 3 replaced on my previous Powerbooks too. They need to look at what other laptop manufacturers are doing - but retain the excellent magsafe connector as it works a treat.
