According to an article over on MacNN, Apple has filed a patent to lay the groundwork for iPhone users to be able to access and purchase content from the iTunes Store.
The patent, which describes the “configuration of a computing device in a secure manner” describes how a mobile device could access the iTunes store and engage in transactions. Additional details include mention of digital signatures and how they’d be validated and a diagram points to a handset communicating with a PC, which is in contact with servers at the other end.
It gets technical, but it is interesting.
