Apple Likely to Include Sync for iPhone Notes in Leopard
Additional evidence through public previews and demonstrations points towards Apple's adding a new feature called Note syncing in the company's forthcoming Mac OS X 10.5 "Leopard" operating system.
According to AppleInsider, the feature has been demonstrated as a crucial part of Mail 3.0, but looks to be system-wide and uses specially formatted HTML e-mails that reside in an iMAP mailbox and are formatted with a distinct font and background style that sets them apart from other e-mails. The notes can include graphics, colored text and attachments and, according to comments from Apple, "since your notes folder acts like an email mailbox, you can retrieve notes from any Mac or PC.”
Even though Apple has made no specific mention of Notes on the iPhone and exluded it from online demonstrations, a tipster that contacted AppleInsider and suggested that there's now direct evidence that this will happen:
Under the latest builds of Leopard, attempts to convert a note from its standard HTML format into a rich text format yields a dialog box that reads "Changing the style or formatting requires that this note be converted to rich text format. Rich text notes may not be editable on iPhone and other devices."
If true, the implications could be useful, as the iPhone's current "Notes" application only allows notes to be saved as plain text e-mails and has yet to offer any form of text import or syncing.
