AT&T to Expand Wireless Network in $2.5 Billion Spectrum Deal
On Tuesday, telephone provider AT&T announced that it had agreed to purchase spectrum licenses from Aloha Partners LP. According to AppleInsider, the deal, worth approximately US$2.5 billion, would allow for expanded wireless voice, data and video services to AT&T's customers, adding 12 MHz of spectrum at the 700 MHz range.
The boost would cover 196 million people in 281 markets and increase AT&T's coverage in dozens of major metropolitan areas.
AT&T has stated that it anticipates receiving the necessary government approvals to close the deal within six to nine months.
