Independence Updated to 1.2.2, Supports iPhone 1.1.1 Firmware

iphone3.jpg

The tug of war between Apple and the developers continues as an additional group has just released Independence 1.2.2, a Cocoa-native jailbreak program for the iPhone.

The new version, a 912 kilobyte download, now supports iPhone's running the 1.1.1 version of the handset's firmware. Users should note that if they've used the anySIM or other free SIM unlocking tool, Independence 1.2.2 will wipe out the SIM unlock and render the phone and text message components of their iPhone inoperable. Everything else will continue to function.

The developers have also warned that the activation/jailbreak process is a bit complicated and that the README file IS your friend...

If you take a shot at this, let us know how it goes in the comments or forums.
