Several 3G USB Unable to Fit MacBook Air USB Port
You go for the slimmest, lightest design possible and there are bound to be problems. According to Engadget, several third generation/USB EVDO modems, including the Sprint / Novatel U727, are unable to fit in the cramped USB port provided on the MacBook Air.
While most flash drives and USB devices should be ok, 3G users will need to look into a powered hub or USB extension cable to make their devices work. Cooler heads should prevail on this one, but it's never a bad idea to bring the USB device in question with you to the Apple store to see how it fits before purchasing the MacBook Air.
As always, give us your take on this over in the comments or forums.

I think they are referring to the physical connection of the USB port of MBA to the external device. There is not enough space to plug the device into MBA USB port.
I know that the 1st generation iPod Shuttle won't fit so I have an extension cable which came with a USB flash drive which was "fat". Later I bought an external USB hub to solve this so I can connect more then two devices at one time to my PowerBook. I got this http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Product_Id=367680#
which has a large area for each USB port so you can plug some wide USB device.
