Late Thursday, Apple released iTunes 7.6.1, a maintenance patch to its iTunes jukebox software. The new version, a 45 megabyte download, adds assorted bug fixes as well as improves compatibility with the Apple TV 2.0 update.

iTunes 7.6.1 is available for free, requires Mac OS X 10.3.9 or later to run and can be snagged using the Mac OS X Software Update feature.

The company also announced via its e-mail newsletter that it will offer a selected movie title for rental each week at a 99-cent price. The first current title is The Hours and the pricing takes effect Thursday and lasts until the following Monday, giving the user a full weekend to watch the movie before the rental expires.

If you've tried the new version and have any feedback, positive or negative, let us know over in the comments or forums.
