Starbucks Ditches T-Mobile for AT&T
The news wires are humming with the news announced this morning that Starbucks is ending its six year agreement with T-Mobile to have their service provide wireless access within the store and that AT&T is the new provider. This is unbelievable news to iPhone and iPod Touch users who had to purchase T-Mobile access cards, or monthly accounts, if they wished to have WiFi access while consuming their favorite beverage. With this announcement 7,000 U.S. Starbucks locations will have AT&T WiFi access begining this spring with full implementation by year's end. This coincides with previous news that Apple will be partnering with Starbucks to provide a Starbucks music playlist with purchase options while in the proximity of the store and with a similar deployment time line.
T-Mobile customers will still be able to use the Wi-Fi services at no additional costs through an agreement between AT&T and T-Mobile. Nearly all of AT&T's broadband Internet customers will automatically have unlimited free Wi-Fi access at Starbucks, this includes users of Apple's iPhone and iPod Touch.
