The Apple Core: Battling the MacBook Air's Recessed Headphone Jack

fruitlogo1.jpg

Every relationship has its struggles and for Jason, this is most apparent with the recessed headphone jack on his MacBook Air.

Though not nearly as recessed as the headphone jack found on the iPhone, the jack prevents a good number of headphones from using the port, thereby requiring an extender.

The rest of the details, as well as a few good solutions can be found over at the Apple Core.

If you've seen this with your own MacBook Air or have a solution or workaround for it, let us know in the comments or forums.

The worst design flaw is that the USB port is next to the headphone jack and if by mistake, the mini-plug from your headphones touches the USB port, the MacBook Air will shortcut. This happens very easily because to have visual feedback from plugging the headphones you need to lift the notebook and turn it sideways.

Of course, I am too lazy to lift my machine every time I want to plug my earphones, so without looking, I try pushing the mini-plug where it'll fit, and 1 out of 3 tries I get a shortcut restart! Not bad considering I don't yet have pupils in my fingertips like some Cupertino folks ;)
