Time Capsule Ready to Ship

timecapsule.jpg

Apple's Time Capsule networking and backup device may be about to ship, as several readers over at AppleInsider have confirmed that their pre-orders for the device have been prepared for shipment:

"I just checked Apple's web site and my Time Capsule order has changed to 'preparing to ship,'" one reader wrote. "Historically that usually happens the same day products I have ordered from Apple ship."

Said another, "My credit card was charged this afternoon by Apple for my Time Capsule. I assume that means the unit will be shipping today or tomorrow."

The Time Capsule peripheral was one of four major product releases at Macworld Expo and combines an 802.11n AirPort Extreme router with a server-grade hard drive. Apple has stated that it works in conjunction with Apple's Time Machine feature to allow for automated, wireless backups on Mac OS X 10.5 ("Leopard")-equipped Macs.

Apple is currently offering the Time Capsule units in a 500 gigabyte configuration for US$299 and a one terabyte configuration for US$499.

If you've heard anything from Apple about your Time Capsule order, let us know over in the comments or forums.

Went into the Apple Store today (Thursday) in Gilbert AZ and asked when they were getting the Time Capsule - the said "we just got them this morning, but they only sent us four" So I bought two.

I've had mine on order from Apple for about a month now, and it still doesn't say that it is/has shipped. The apple store by me is getting them tomorrow. I can't believe they would not ship the people who have been waiting for them at the same time as the stores for people to walk in and buy now! Sheesh!

I'm heading up to the Apple Store tomorrow to buy one and cancel my online order. So much for the extra money I paid for "expedited shipping"!
