iPhone Launches in Austria, Ireland (Updated)
Per a MacRumors story, Apple and wireless carrier T-Mobile have launched the iPhone in Austria while Apple is teaming up with carrier 02 in Ireland.
The handset is currently being offered at 399 euros for an eight gigabyte unit and 499 euros for a 16 gigabyte unit under the following monthly calling plans:
-"Classic": 39 euros for three gigabytes of data, 1,000 minutes and free T-Mobile Wi-Fi access.
-"Supreme": 55 euros for three gigabytes of data, 4,000 minutes, 1,000 SMS messages and free T-Mobile Wi-Fi access.
The Austrian launch also coincides with a launch in Ireland, Apple having stated they were planning on launching the iPhone in Asia and other European countries throughout 2008.
Sources close to the story have unfortunately disclosed that Irish subscribers are not entitled to the Visual Voicemail or free Wi-Fi, albeit these are offered by O2 UK. In the case of the Irish launch, the iPhone is available in Ireland through the 02 and Carphone Warehouse stores for 399 and 499 euros, respectively. Irish users will be limited to a one gigabyte per month data cap and will be required into an 18 month contract for purchase. These users will also lack rollover minutes or text messages under O2's calling plan.
If you're close to either the Irish or Austrian iPhone launches and can offer your opinion or send pictures of the event, let us know in the comments or forums.

Since most of the TSA screening process is meant to instill fear of a statistically minuscule terrorist threat into that part of the populace with enough money to travel, or that has to travel for business, this rule is as good as another, but gives no sense of security to me.
