Intel Debunks Atom-powered Device Rumor

intellogo.jpg

An Intel-based iPhone or iPhone-like tablet may not be en route after all. According to a German ZDNet.de blog (reported in English by The Guardian), representatives from Intel have stated that the CEO of Intel's German branch was simply misunderstood and was merely illustrating the example of the iPhone as a device that could use the company's Atom chipset.

Per the follow-up blog:

Intel disclaimed of yesterday the statements of managing director Hannes Schwaderer about future iPhone models, quoted in the ZDNet report. Schwaderer made only general remarks possible mobile Internet DEVICE (MIDs) and did not speculate upon future iPhone models. Apple iPhone was only called as example of small Internet entrance devices in this connection. "Intel knows nothing about future products of other manufacturers and can therefore about it also nothing say", said press spokesman Mike Cato opposite ZDNet.de.

Spin control or otherwise, it'd be interesting to see what the Atom chipset could do for Apple's mobile devices.

If you have a take on this, let us know over in the comments or forums.
