MCE Releases One Terabyte Hard Drive Kit for 17" MacBook Pro (Updated)

mcekit.jpg

Tech outfitter MCE has introduced a 2.5" hard drive kit for the MacBook and MacBook Pro notebooks. The kit, a one terabyte replacement for the laptop's standard 250 gigabyte drive as well as the optical drive incorporates two 500 gigabyte drives and also ships with external USB 2.0 enclosures allowing users to keep using their previous hard drive and optical unit.

According to PC World, the drive retails for US$799 or more if you'd like MCE to install it for you.

Once installed, users can configure the drives however they wish, partition them as needed and set one to act as a Time Machine backup of the other.

Per MCE, the kit is compatible with the 17" MacBook Pro thanks to the hard drives measuring 12.5 millimeters in height

If anyone's looked into this or has thoughts about it, let us know over in the comments or forums.

Crappy writing in this article. Is it "the drive" or a pair of "drives"? Also, the MBP doesn't have a "standard 5,400RPM 500 gigabyte drive".

Even crappier writing when you actually read MCE's site and realize that this kit is only for the 17-inch model, something the original author should have done. (I left a longer and kinder explanation, but apparantly the PowerPage won't post it.)
