Wireless Carriers Confirmed for Singapore, India, Philippines and Australia iPhone Hosting (Updated)

Today, wireless carrier Optus confirmed that Apple's iPhone to Australia, Singapore, India and the Philippines will be hosted and carried by multiple parties via the following announcement on its web site:


Optus, SingTel, Bharti Airtel and Globe to bring iPhone to the region
12 May 2008

Optus, SingTel, Bharti Airtel and Globe today announced that they have signed an agreement with Apple to bring the iPhone to Singapore, India, the Philippines and Australia later this year.

More information will be released at a later date.

Carriers and service areas are as follows:
Singapore - SingTel
Australia - Optus (owned by SingTel)
India - Bharti Airtel (SingTel has a stake in it)
Phillipines - Globe Telecom

The title is misleading. Each country has one carrier for the iPhone:

Singapore - SingTel
Australia - Optus (owned by SingTel)
India - Bharti Airtel (SingTel has a stake in it)
Phillipines - Globe Telecom

SIngTel also has a stake in Globe Telecom, which is probably why SIngTel used its presence in Southeast Asia as leverage to win the rights to the area.

In India there are two Airtel and Vodafone.
