SlingPlayer in Development for iPhone
On Monday, Sling Media confirmed that the company has been developing a version of its SlingPlayer mobile software for Apple's iPhone. According to Macworld News, the software, which has been described as a "proof of concept" when under development via jailbroken iPhone handsets, offers much of the same functionality as the client for the Symbian S60, Windows Mobile and other cell phone platforms.
Once installed, users can navigate through a Slingbox network streaming hub connected to a home TV feed and choose channels through a visual guide. Users can also stop or skip through playback in a style similar to a digital video recorder.
Per the article, Ted Malone, Sling's VP of product marketing and product management, stated that Sling Media is creating a version available through unofficial installation tools as well as one that will be available through Apple's upcoming App Store as an approved application.
Malone went on to state that the current version depends on Wi-Fi for its data access but should run "acceptably well" over 3G cellular Internet access should Apple support the technology.
A demonstration by Sling of SlingPlayer Mobile will take place 10 AM local time on Monday in San Francisco at the Starbucks at 120 4th Street, across from the Metreon shopping center for the beginning of Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference.
If you've played with Sling before and can offer any opinions about it, let us know over in the comments or forums.

Now if only Sling would stop wasting time and deliver the 2.0 app for the Mac and PC we'll all be happy. Would be a bit odd if the iPhone gets attention before the Apple desktop does.. Priorities..priorities..
