AT&T Offers Free Wi-Fi Access to iPhone Users, Pulls Offer Again (Updated)

They teased us with it back in May.
And you have to admit that was fairly cruel.
Now, according to iPhone Alley">iPhone Alley and the company's web site, AT&T is purportedly "proud to offer iPhone customers free access to the nation's largest Wi-Fi hotspot network with more than 17,000 hotspots, including Starbucks."
The details are a little sketchy and it's unclear as to what you have to do to access the network on your iPhone.
Update: AT&T has apparently pulled the offer according to CNET.
Wes Warnock, an AT&T spokesman, offered the following statement as to why the announcement was published in error.
"We have not made any announcement regarding free Wi-Fi and iPhone," he said in an e-mail. "The Web page was posted in error and is being removed."
Your mission today, should you choose to accept it, head over to a Starbucks with an advertised AT&T Wi-Fi hotspot, try to use it via your iPhone or iPod touch and let us know how it goes in the comments or forums.

All you have to do at an AT&T Wi-Fi Hot Spot is wait a second for the iPhone to recognize the router, then try to access a web page. Your browser will be directed to an AT&T log in page. Enter your log in info if you are an AT&T DSL customer, or go to the AT&T web site and register for AT&T Wi-Fi before you go to Starbucks or McDonalds.

I think AT&T has a bad bad case of Rectal Octilitis According to Dwight Silverman @ TechBlog AT&T has cried wolf once again. I know I've called WiFi customer support twice on this issue with no resolution like Dwight was able to acquire. I think all this misconduct on AT&T's part should be grounds for exclusive contract cancellation. They are not upholding their end of the bargain so why should Apple keep committed to them. If they don't want the guaranteed customer base for 2 years let's let someone who is customer oriented onto the field.

All you need to do for free access at
Starbucks, is to purchase one of their
cash cards and use it once a month...
