Solid State Drives May Reduce Notebook Battery Runtime

macbookair.jpg

If you bought a MacBook Air with a solid state hard drive (SSD), you may want to leave the room for a bit.

According to a test performed by the guys over at Tom's Hardware, which looked at four different SSD models and compared them with a 7,200 RPM standard hard drive of the same size, the disk apparently reduced the notebook's battery runtime from seven hours to six hours.

SSD units, which have been cited as appreciably faster than traditional hard drives, are popular in that they are reported to consume less power than their counterparts.

If you've seen a similar situation with your MacBook Air and other notebooks, please let us know over in the comments of forums.
