AT&T Introduces Two New International Calling Plans for iPhone

On Tuesday, wireless carrier AT&T announced two new international calling plans for iPhone users. According to MacNN, the plans are divided into 100 and 200 megabyte data transfer sizes and cover roaming in 67 countries including Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Japan and Mexico.

The plans supplement existing 20 and 50 megabyte plans, which retail at US$25 and US$60 per month with the 100 and 200 megabyte plans retail for US$120 and US$200 per month, respectively.

Per the announcement, the new plans will become available on Wednesday, August 27th.

An international plan prevents excessive charges for basic data functions and AT&T has noted that at its normal per-kilobyte rate, two megabytes of data transfer would cost just under $40. The carrier nevertheless recommends that travelers shut off data roaming on an iPhone, use Wi-Fi whenever possible, and disable any automatic e-mail checks.

If you've tried AT&T's international calling plans on your iPhone or can offer your own thoughts on this, let us know over in the comments or forums.
