For users waiting for the iPhone 3G to hit India, wireless carrier Bharti Airtel will be selling the handset on August 22nd at prices similar to those announced by Vodafone Essar on Tuesday.

According to Macworld UK, both carriers will offer the 8GB iPhone 3G at 31,000 rupees (US$$710.85) and the 16GB iPhone 3G at 36,1000 rupees (US$827.79).

"We see the iPhone 3G as a lifestyle product, but both Airtel and Vodafone have priced them at levels similar to business mobile phones," said R. Satish, a software engineer in Bangalore.

Both Airtel and Vodafone have announced midnight events to launch the handset and crowds are expected at the carriers' outlets in key cities throughout the country.

If you're in India or have heard anything about the launches, please let us know in the comments or forums.

Hi

I am surprised to see all of you shocked with the price. This is exactly what was expected and by
the way iPhones features are revolutionary and the price is justified.
Respect the hard work that poeple have put in to develop this mind freaking device, because kind of great features and enhanced user interface it has, it justifies it cost.
