iPhone SMS Security Hole Remains

3giphone.jpg

Despite multiple software updates, a security hole that allows users to compromise the security of text messages sent to the handset remains. According to blogger Karl Kraft, the handset, if placed in emergency call mode, still allows full text messages to be visible, even if the SMS preview function is turned off. Kraft noted that the issue exists all the way up to firmware v2.1 (5F136), under the bug ID 6267416.

Apple recently unveiled three iPhone v2.0 patches, all of which claimed to resolve all outstanding issues with the device, but still some users are concerned that most issues were not properly addressed.

If you've seen this bug on your end or have an opinion about the security issue, please let us know in the comments or forums.

Not sure how this is concidered a big "security hole". You would first
have to lock your phone (I never do).

... and then... allow your phone to
be stolen from you. (I've never had
a phone stolen.)

... and then you'd have to send your
stolen phone... some top-secret text
message. (I would never do that anyway.)

So what's the big deal????

Apple will fix it in the next release.
