BlackBerry Desktop Manager for Mac 1.0.0 Released

It’s not terribly exciting, but it’s been long-anticipated and may just be useful.

After, oh, several years of treating the Mac OS X platform like a second class citizen and letting third party outfits pick up the slack on syncing, Research In Motion has finally released version 1.0.0 of its BlackBerry Desktop Manager for Mac software. The application, a 26.7 megabyte download, allows Mac users to sync data from Mac applications like iCal, Address Book, Microsoft Entourage and others, as well as add and remove applications, schedule automatic backups, encrypt backup files and install software updates for their BlackBerry smartphones.

The application also integrates BlackBerry Media Sync, enabling Mac users to sync their iTunes music collections.

BlackBerry Desktop Manager 1.0.0 is available as a free download and requires Mac OS X 10.5, iTunes 7.2 or later and BlackBerry Device Software 4.2 or later to install and run.

    too little, too late. already moved on from RIM…

    I think the Mac is still being treated as a second-class citizen. There was no mention of the tethering support that their software provides on the PC.

    Just downloaded it and noticed two things:
    1. It worked, syncing my calendar properly for the first time EVER in my bbry experience.
    2. It allowed me to see every installed app and remove any of them, including bbry maps, bbry messenger, and a couple of others that I had not done prior (don’t know if they were not showing on the apps prefs on the bbry or if I just never got to it).

    Not super fast but works. Go get it.

    Am I doing something wrong? I can’t even get my Mac to see my bb Tour on the desktop. I used the usb cable from the phone and plugged it in the back of my Mac USB port…it doesn’t recognize the BB. Pls. advise.

    It works flawlessly for me. Its sync to itunes works like a charm. I don’t sync calendars and contacts, as thats done wirelessly with my companies servers, but I do like having backups, updates, etc etc easily available now. Next, they need to do a conduit for fotos, but those are easily dragged to the card, as it nicely mounts it on the desktop anyway.

    Did you install the software first? It won’t recognize it unless your software is installed.

    Tethering took me about 2 minutes to accomplish, via this article. Best one I have seen. I have an 8330 and it works flawlessly. (via bluetooth)

    WOW!!!! It’s working great now. Thanks for all the advice. I’m having fun synching everything, ical, notes, tasks, music and contacts with no problems. Music works perfectly (had to tweek it a little). All my songs from itunes are downloaded. Exciting!
