Apple apparently discontinues third-gen Apple TV units, focuses on fourth-gen models

It’s been some time coming.

Apple has officially discontinued the third-gen Apple TV set-top box. In an email sent out today to employees and education partners, Apple confirmed that it is discontinuing the device, shifting its focus entirely to the fourth-gen, tvOS-powered model.

In the email, Apple explained that it would fulfill order backlog for the device, but pointed partners towards the other available products for new purchases.

Apple offered the following explanation in the email:

Effective immediately, Apple TV (3rd generation), MD/199LL/A, has reached end of life and is now discontinued. The Apple Supply team is going to fulfill all shippable backlog.

Apple Pay launches in Russia, becomes 10th country to go online

Apple launched Apple Pay in Russia on Tuesday, marking the 10th country in which Apple Pay has gone online, following the United States, Britain, Canada and others.

Rumor: Apple to introduce three new iPad Pro models in 2017, will migrate iPad mini 4 to smaller iPad Pro

The current rumor has it that Apple will be swapping out the iPad mini with a smaller iPad Pro.

A report from KGI in August suggest that Apple may launch three new iPads in 2017, and suggested that the 9.7-inch model would grow in size slightly to 10.5-inches. It’s also been suggested three new iPad Pro models are coming up in the spring of next year, with some details overlapping the KGI report.

It’s been thought that the 10.5-inch iPad Pro will be changed to a 10.1-inch iPad Pro. The larger screen size will be achieved by making the external dimensions 1cm longer and 0.5cm wide.

Apple launches Spoken Editions section of iTunes, provides narrated content from dozens of publishers

If you love audiobooks, this could be nifty.

On Monday, Apple announced its new “Spoken Editions” section of iTunes, which will feature narrated content from a number of online publishers in the form of audio-only podcasts. These Spoken Editions are available both in the iTunes storefront, as well as in Appleā€™s Podcasts app, for easy access.

With the launch, more then 40 publishers will be distributing content, including the Huffington Post, Reuters, Slate. .Mic, Wired, IGN, Bustle, Fusion, Gizmodo, Jezebel, Lifehacker, TIME, Skift, TechCrunch and Playboy.

iPhone 7 to launch in wider array of international markets on October 14th

The iPhone 7 is about to hit the road with a wide international debut over the next 10 days.

Following an October 7th debut in India, the handset will be available in Turkey, Malaysia, and South Africa, as well as smaller markets like Macao, Macedonia, and Montenegro and possibly other regions on October 14th.

A South Korean launch is “tentatively” set for Oct. 21st as well. The target was allegedly arrived at in talks between Apple Korea and three phone carriers on Thursday, but still has to be approved by Apple’s Cupertino headquarters.

New drone footage shows additional progress, lights beginning to turn on at Campus 2 construction site

The lights have become to come on at the Apple Campus 2 construction site.

New drone video footage over the past few weeks has shows the appearance of lights on the outside of the ring-shaped building, along with fewer construction cranes, suggesting the near-completion of the campus as work shifts from architectural to electrical and the surrounding landscape features.

Over in the center of the campus, work seems to have begun on a large water feature. The change accompanies some pond, boulder and greenery installations that have also taken place.
