Rumor: AirPods to ship in January

If you’re hankering for the new AirPods, you might have to wait until January.

Following Apple’s unexplained delay of the new headphones, foreign supply chain sources are now pointing towards a launch date in January 2017, and not the late 2016 estimation that many believed would help the new devices sell during the holidays.

The Economic Daily News has states that AirPods manufacturing supplier Inventec has anticipated a profit boost from the AirPods come January. Thus, the supplier itself is leaning towards a January release date.

iFixit completes teardown of 2016 13-inch Touch Bar-less MacBook Pro, finds new SSD, other changes

True to form, the cool cats at iFixit got their mitts on the new Touch Bar-less 13-inch MacBook Pro and performed a complete teardown.

The new notebook features some interesting new components, is actually more repairable than its predecessor and incorporates an easily-removable, faster, PCI-E SSD inside the new MacBook Pro 13 can easily be removed. It’s powered by a custom Apple SSD controller, however, which limits your ability to actually swap out the drive. The notebook’s RAM remains soldered on to the logic board.

Apple adds Maps support, transit directions for multiple Ohio cities

If you’re looking for directions in and around Ohio’s cities and its transit systems, Apple Maps has you covered as of today.

Apple added full directions and transit support to both the iOS and macOS versions of Maps on Monday. The new cities include Akron, Athens, Canton, Dayton, Cincinnati, and parts of Cleveland. Columbus was added last month, just before the launch of iOS 10.

Users can now use Apple Maps to navigate via bus and rail routes. Each route is color-coded, and includes alerts about service issues.

Touch Bar-equipped 2016 MacBook Pro notebooks do away with classic startup chime sound

The Apple startup chime you know and love has gone the way of the dodo with the new Touch Bar-equipped MacBook Pro.

Pingie noticed that the new notebook’s NVRAM reset instructions lacked a reference to the startup chime. They later said they were able to confirm the change after getting their hands on a new MacBook Pro.

It’s thought that the classic chime sound – or lack of it – is part of the MacBook Pro’s new startup feature. The notebook is designed to turn on as soon as you open the laptop cover, or when it’s connected to an external power source while the lid is open.
