Rumor: Next-gen iPhone to feature improvements to receiver, stereo sound, waterproofing

Amidst all the rumors, there’s got to be a nugget of truth in here somewhere.

Apple’s next-gen iPhone is said to feature an “enhanced receiver” with “further improvements” to stereo sound and waterproofing, according to new research shared this week by JPMorgan analysts, who track the company’s supply chain in the Asia-Pacific region.

As of now, the receiver is embedded in the slim, meshed earpiece cutout above the screen that the user holds against their ear during a phone call. Since the iPhone 7, it has doubled as a full-out speaker. With two speakers, Apple says the iPhone 7 delivers two times the audio output of an iPhone 6s with increased dynamic range.

Apple expands Maps van data gathering efforts to New York, Connecticut and Arizona

Apple’s data map collection efforts haver expanded from the Bay Area and gone to the east coast and to the southwest.

As noted on the company’s Apple Maps vehicles webpage, Apple is continuing its Apple Maps data collection in New England with camera and sensor-equipped vans for the first time. The expansion to Connecticut marks the 34th state in which Apple has collected Maps data.

Per Apple’s web site, Apple will be collecting data from the following Connecticut counties in the coming weeks:

Fairfield County, Hartford County, Litchfield County, Middlesex County, New Haven County, New London County, Tolland County, Windham County
