Apple extends Smart Keyboard for iPad Pro limited warranty to 36 months for variety of issues

Apple has extended its repair program for its Smart Keyboard for iPad Pro. Within the extension, customers experiencing certain issues with the product to receive repairs or replacements from Apple for three years after the device is purchased. Apple informed its retail staff and authorized service providers of the new policy in an internal memo.

The program covers the Smart Keyboard for the 9.7-inch (Early 2016) and 12.9-inch (Late 2015) iPad Pro models and covers Smart Keyboards experiencing the following issues, including:

sticking/repeating keys, sensor issues, problems with the keyboard’s magnetic connector, connection issues, and unresponsive keys.

Feinstein: FBI spent roughly $900,000 to decrypt San Bernadino shooter’s iPhone 5c data

The data recovery effort to copy the iPhone 5c data of San Bernardino shooter Syed Rizwan Farook erred on the pricey side.

Namely, in the neighborhood of $900,000 according to California senator Dianne Feinstein, who mentioned the amount spent recently when questioning FBI director James Comey at a Senate Judiciary Committee oversight hearing.

“I was so struck when San Bernardino happened and you made overtures to allow that device to be opened, and then the FBI had to spend $900,000 to hack it open,” Feinstein commented. “And as I subsequently learned of some of the reason for it, there were good reasons to get into that device.”
