A few of my favorite things: Waterfield and Peralta bags for the iPad Pro

Waterfield's Field Muzetto bag

Having a good bag is almost as important as having good equipment in the first place. If you spent good money on an iPad or MacBook it makes no sense to have your sweet hardware bouncing around in a poorly-constructed vessel that costs less than your Uber fare. It’s also a shame to tuck your beautiful Apple hardware into an unsightly “computer bag” which is why I love Waterfield bags.

I’ve been recommending Waterfield’s stitched-in-San Francisco products since 1999. If you’ve recently acquired a new iPad Pro, or your old bag needs to be updated, Waterfield’s got two great new products that I can’t recommend highly enough: the Field Muzetto and the Peralta Scarlett iPad Pro Sleeve.

The Field Muzetto (above) is constructed from brown waxed canvas and distressed leather and smells like a new baseball glove coming out of the package. It’s a minimal, vertically-oriented bag perfect for commuting and taking your iPad or MacBook on weekend trips. It comes in three sizes to fit everything from an iPad to a MacBook Pro. I prefer the small size ($169) which is the perfect size to carry my MacBook (12-inch) and an iPad. It can even fit the new iPad Pro with Smart Keyboard.

In addition to two main compartments, one lined with soft fleece, the Field Muzetto has a zippered inside pocket, lined front pocket and an exterior pocket for when the flap’s closed. The flap has a nice weight to it and the lack of buckle, velcro or other closure provides quick access and contributes to the bag’s great looks. It’s an ideal bag for traveling light and looking great doing it.

Peralta Bags is a division of Waterfield that makes bags targeted at “bold, smart, creative women.” The Peralta Scarlett iPad Pro sleeve ($79, above) fits the iPad Pro, the Apple Smart Keyboard and Pencil.

The Peralta Scarlett continues Waterfield’s long heritage of quality sleeve cases that are legendary for great protection and style. A coated, water-repellant nylon keeps moisture away while the shock-absorbing neoprene interior protects your gear from impacts. The fleece liner keeps your iPad Pro scratch-free and the magnetic leather closure tab is pretty slick, but the included sleeve for the Apple pencil (notched out of the leather strip on the opposite side) is the icing on the coolness cake.

Resist the urge to default to (boring) black. Scarlett also comes in Red Gala and a gorgeous Blue/Gold Plaza (pictured) that would look right at home on an antique wing chair. Although Peralta is billed as Waterfield’s women’s line I’m proudly rocking the Blue/Gold Plaza on my iPad Pro and it’s definitely a head-turner.
