AE Paris 01: Read his Lips, no new Hardware

In contrast to his usual secrecy, Jobs is up-front in a press release about Apple Expo Paris: no new hardware will be introduced. “My keynote will focus on Mac OS X v10.1, the super-fast new version of Mac OS X, and our revolutionary new iDVD 2 software, which lets users create their own custom DVDs that can be played on consumer DVD players,” says Jobs. “This has been an incredible new product year for Apple, so we don?t plan to launch any new hardware products in Paris this year.”

What’s the good news? Well, we certainly hope that 10.1 will be shipping by the keynote. Jobs will give the opening keynote address for Apple Expo on Wednesday, September 26 at 10:00 a.m. CET. Apple Expo 2001 will be held at the Paris Expo in Porte de Versailles, September 26-30.

Even this announcement leaves some breathing room. “No new hardware” presumably does not rule out, for example, a hybrid CD-RW/DVD drive on an updated Titanium, which is certainly in the realm of possibility. But if you wanted new iMacs, you better start getting used to Steve’s new “grinch” mode at keynotes.
