Apple may have inadvertently outed upcoming iPhone 5c with Touch ID sensor

An inadvertent promotional photo may have just outed an iPhone 5c with a Touch ID sensor.

A new promotional photo posted to Apple’s online storefront this week shows what appears to be a new version of the iPhone 5c, complete with a Touch ID embedded in its home button.

The photo was part of a promotion for Apple’s recently-announced Lightning dock. Aside from the Touch ID home button, the pictured device looks much the same. The FaceTime camera remains above the earpiece, while the lock button is on the top right and distinct, pill-shaped buttons control the volume.

It’s possible that this could be an error on Apple’s part and Apple has occasionally quietly revealed new products this way.

If the device is legitimate, it could be unveiled during Apple’s upcoming Worldwide Developers Conference next month. The company will hold its annual keynote address on June 8.

Stay tuned for additional details as they become available.
