Apple Pay grows, now supports 90% of U.S. credit cards

Apple Pay is growing.

Per MacRumors and the New York Times,

With the list of Apple Pay-supported companies growing more every week, Apple has revealed that the new mobile payments service now supports cards representing about 90 percent of the credit card purchase volume in the United States. This is up from the 80 percent figure cited at Apple Pay’s launch just two months ago.

The article states that Apple Pay has grown in popularity with users as the rollout continues. Whole Foods saw more than 150,000 Apple Pay transactions in the first few days after release, and the service accounted for more than 50 percent of McDonald’s tap-to-pay purchases in November.

The news comes on the soft launch day of Apple Pay support at TD Bank in the U.S., adding to the growing list of banks supporting the e-payments solution. The U.S. subsidiary of the Canadian bank is just another in a long line of companies with high hopes that Apple’s electronic payments solution will be the first widely adopted, according to industry analyst Patrick Moorhead.

If you’ve tried Apple Pay since its debut and have any feedback to offer about your experience, please let us know in the comments.

Have used applePay exactly 3 times. Once at apple store. Very smooth. Once at McDonalds… it turned into a training session for the McDonald’s employee but somebody had to be his first. Final time was a failed attempt at Home Depot. It was not applePay’s fault… it was CapitalOne’s fault. Capital one declined the purchase because “home depot had been hacked.” When I explained later to Capital One that Home Depot had been hacked months before and had the been using ApplePay it couldn’t have happened, the CapitalOne representative said they were simply trying to protect the customer. Not very bright. Anyway, I like it. My small credit union is currently waiting for Apple to approve ApplePay for their “VISA” card and they say they submitted the paperwork to Apple 4 weeks ago and are still waiting. I guess Apple is a little slow approving the smaller banks.
