Ya can’t knock a useful Java update.

On Tuesday, Apple released its Java 2012-006 update for its Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion) and Mac OS X 10.8 (Mountain Lion) operating systems. The update, a 67 megabyte download, uninstalls the Apple-provided Java applet plug-in from all web browsers. To use applets on a web page, click on the region labeled “Missing plug-in” to go download the latest version of the Java applet plug-in from Oracle.

As always, the update can also be located and installed via the built-in “Software Update” feature in Mac OS X.

The Java 2012-006 update requires an Intel-based Mac running Mac OS X 10.7 or later to install.

If you’ve tried the updates and have any feedback to offer, please let us know in the comments.

I down loaded the java and tried to play yahoo pinochle. A screen came and said you need a plug-in. I clicked on the plug in and it told me no plug in available i NEED 10.8.3 (which doesn’t exist yet.

This update has killed our customers ability to upload film on a Mac. Our upload applet, after installing Java 7, does not have a “send” button and therefore our Mac customers cannot upload video as they are required to by their conferences. It is a serious problem for us and as of this writing, we cannot find a solution.

Can’t help but wonder if Apple is sticking their thumb in Google’s eye with this. Let’s see.. if we remove our plugin, Chrome users won’t have Java. Brilliant!

Play nice – the users are suffering!

I have the same problem with Yahoo. Perhaps its time that Yahoo updated their games to recognize that Macs do have a java capacity. It seems that I get booted when the game pops up a message saying Macs cant run live script.

I have the same problem as jon b. I cannot get into the Yahoo game rooms and play without getting an error message or immediate boot. I also uninstalled and reinstalled with no luck HELP!

I am a Realtor in California – I cannot run my Winforms (Realtor software for transaction legal forms) and pretty much unable to conduct transaction business. THIS IS A BIG PROBLEM!!! Quit fighting and FIX the problem!

The java update has caused a problem for me trying to run yahoo games applets. While I can enter game rooms, when I try to set a table or join a game, I get booted from the yahoo game server. Uninstalled and reinstalled, but the same thing happens. Any suggestions would be welcome

The Apple Java for OS X 2012-006 1.0 update for Mac OS X 10.7, 10.8 operating systems removes Java applet support from all browsers.
If you exclusively or primarily use the 32-bit Google Chrome browser you are left with no way to run Java applets in the Chrome browser.
After installing the Java for OS X 2012-006 1.0 update, anyone who visits a web page with a Java applet in the Chrome browser is directed to download the Java 7 applet plug-in from Oracle.
Attempting to do so generates the following message;
“Chrome does not support Java 7. Java 7 runs only on 64-bit browsers and Chrome is a 32-bit browser.
If you download Java 7, you will not be able to run Java content in Chrome and will need to use a 64-bit browser (such as Safari or Firefox) to run Java content within a browser. Additionally, installing Java 7 will disable the ability to use Apple Java 6 on your system.”If you go to the Oracle site and follow the links to get the Java 6 version at the
Java 6 download page, there is only a message as follows for the MAC OS X system.

“APPLE JAVA 6 FOR MAC OS XFor Java versions 6 and below, Apple supplies their own version of Java. Use the Software Update feature (available on the Apple menu) to check that you have the most up-to-date version of Java 6 for your Mac. For issues related to Apple Java 6 on Mac, contact Apple Support. “
