Apple releases Smart Keyboard software update, seeks to resolve connectivity issues

Following complaints from a number of users that the iPad Pro Smart Keyboard loses connectivity on occasion, Apple has released a software update to address the issue.

The description goes as follows:

If your iPad Pro wakes up from time to time when it’s connected to a Smart Keyboard, here’s what to do. To solve this issue, disconnect the Smart Keyboard from your iPad Pro, and then connect it again. When iOS asks if you want to update the Smart Keyboard, tap Update.

The issue resolves around the iPad Pro waking from sleep randomly when connected to a Smart Keyboard, but Apple does not say that it has addressed other Smart Keyboard issues such as an issue where the Command-Tab shortcut does not always navigate to the app-switcher.

iOS 9.3, which is expected to be released in March, includes some enhancements for the iPad Pro Smart Keyboard. Apple has altered a couple of the shortcuts, allowing for a Command + H combination to go to the Home screen and has added the ability for third-party Smart Connector accessories to be updated over-the-air.

If you’ve tried the update with your iPad Pro Smart Keyboard and have any feedback to offer, please let us know in the comments.
