Apple releases Time Capsule and AirPort Base Station Firmware 7.5.2

Late Friday, Apple released its Time Capsule and AirPort Base Station Firmware 7.5.2. The update provides bug fixes for all 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Stations, AirPort Express Base Stations, and Time Capsules. Some of the fixes include the following:

– General fixes to Wi-Fi base station stability.

– Fixes some issues with AirPlay streaming.

– General fixes with USB interoperability including connection to external storage devices.

– Fixes some issues with NAT port mapping settings.

– Disables TKIP security with 802.11n rates per the Wi-Fi Alliance specifications.

The update can be found, downloaded and installed via the software update feature in the AirPort Utility program (Applications–>Utilities), takes about a minute to install and requires Mac OS X 10.4 or later to install and run.

If you’ve tried the new firmware and noticed any changes, please let us know.

This update also fixes issues with using the MobileMe services that are available on the Airport. These were more-or-less working on the Dual Radio Extremes, and now they work much better on all the Extremes that will accept this update.

Big improvement. More stable, and even seems faster. I have a 2008 Airport Extreme, with 6 airport express units for speakers, printers, and bluray players, and 2 apple TV (white last gen) units on my network. Yes, this is an improvement.

works great – seems to eliminate the AirPlay dropouts and stalls. Also higher, more consistent bandwidth. I have a network comprised of two dual channel Airport extremes and two Airport expresses (one n, on pre-n)

had a time capsule as primary station, and an mid-model airport extreme basestation (gigabit) to extend the primary network. Always worked fine until the upgrades.

As apple specified, I upgraded the 1° timecapsule first (to firmware 7.5.2)
–> at this point, it was still okay.

Then I upgraded the 2° extender station
–> that’s when it all went south: there appeared to be a conflict, and the whole network seemed to shut down (no meaningful traffic, internet access lost from all locales, wired or wireless). I had to unplug the power cord for the 2° extendor station to get the network to come back online.

I tried some troubleshooting: I had an older fast ethernet basestation (firmware 7.4.2; let’s call this the 3° extender station), and when I plugged in as a replacement for the offending (7.5.2 gigabit 2° station)
–>the network was back to functioning.

Finally, I updated the 3° station to 7.5.2 as well;
–>back to stalling the whole network again! (and again, unplug the 7.5.2 extendor, and the rest of the network chugs alone just fine).

And, yes, before anyone suggests it, I checked and confirmed that the primary network was set to allow extensions, and the extender stations were properly configured to act in that capacity. As I said, the exension worked fine until each device was upgraded to 7.5.2.

This is an annoying bug!

You may need to delete the whole network and all the settings and set it all up again. It may be a conflict in how the stations have named the network in their language.

Mine went dead on the update too. After every unit was updated it prompted me to turn off (unplug) my Airport extreme, and plug it back in. It then prompted me to enter my network password, and voila’ I’m surfin’ faster than ever. Looking forward to seeing if the stability of all my airport express units remains better. in the past they’ve dropped out periodically and I’ve had to unplug them and replug them.

Yeah.. but I was not able to even see the time capsule.. therefore, I couldn’t go into the menu..

This sucks… I updated to 7.5.2 this morning. Then wifi on Tiime Capsule stopped working and the Airport ultility could detect anything in the area. Had to roll back..

Upgraded express from 7.4.2 to 7.5.2. Huge improvement in dropouts. Have been playing for an hour with no dropouts.
