Apple has a quarterly sale for employees and their friends called QPromo where they blow out all their overstock hardware that is clogging up inventory in an effort to make room for the new stuff. It’s also a harbinger of new models coming down the line. The problem with QPromo is that like Apple’s educational discount, it used to be much better. Some examples:
Apple PowerBook 12-inch (1.33 GHz) – QPromo price US$1299
(a new PB12 1.5GHz is US$1499 from the Apple Store)
Apple PowerBook 17-inch (1.5GHz) – QPromo price US$2199
(a new PB17 1.67GHz is US$2699 from the Apple Store)
PowerMac G5 (1.8GHz) – QPromo price US$1199
(a new PMG5 1.8GHz is US$1499 from the Apple Store)
Well, it’s interesting to see that Apple is price gouging its employees too. Sheesh. If you’d like a copy of the doc, get in touch.
