According to C|Net and MacCentral, Apple has sent out invitations for a press event on October 23 where it will unveil a “breakthrough digital device” that is “not a Mac.”Is the revival of the Newton imminent? Will it be a device to connect your home entertainment system to your Mac via FireWire or AirPort? Could it be the “candy colored goodness” that As the Apple Turns expected would be unveiled alongside the revised PowerBooks? C|Net is betting on a digital music device, even though the market is already flooded with MP3 players, while the other news sites remain mum.
Update: Rumor site Think Secret is reporting that its own sources confirm C|Net’s suggestion that the “groundbreaking digital device” that Apple will announce is indeed some sort of music playing device. According to Think Secret’s source, the new device will not be “just another run-of-the-mill MP3 player.”
