PowerPage reader Geert Matton submits this piece on his excellent iPod install in his car.

I'm an Art Director for TMP in Belgium and I wanted to integrate my iPod into my 2004 Audi A2 and do it in a way that I would be able to use the full potential of my iPod and in a nice way, no haywire of cables. This is what I came up with...

At first this seems to be a regular car, no different from any other.

When I open the second cupholder, it proves to be an iPod dock, not a cupholder. It's an iPod dock that you can slide in and out. All you have to do now is slide in your iPod and you're ready to rock.

The iPod tray completely slided out, you can see the two cables, one for the audio, one for the power. I'm still able to unplug the iPod dock and take it out if i want to, it is not glued to the tray.

To use it, on a daily basis, i do not slide the tray complety out, it just let the iPod dock slide out. Since it is a tight fit, I'm able to keep it this way, without sliding out completely. I choose this option because i did not wanted to use a regular iPod cradle, like the ones used for cellular phone, because this would required me to slide the iPod in, plug in the first cable, then the second, each time. Now i mostly leave the tray like this, half open, so the only thing i need to do is to slide in my iPod.

This is the last picture, with my iPod in the iPod dock. It's an universal dock, which means, that I can use all kinds of iPods. In fact I needed to switch the little cradle in the iPod dock to be able to use it with my U2 iPod, since it had a cradle for the latest iPods. If I switch this little cradle I'm able to use a new video iPod too.

To use the favorite sentence of our favorite CEO, I also bought a remote with my iPod dock, before I build the dock in my cupholder tray I tested it out and off course it worked, since the eye on the iPod dock is now covered by the front of the tray I thought that the remote would not work anymore - but it does! I do not use it however, it's a little overkill for me, I already have the iPod within reach. I find the remote more helpfull when using the dock next to my TV.
