MacBook Pro Unboxing Pictures

My MacBook Pro just arrived at PowerPage world headquarters 10 minutes ago and wanted to post a couple of pictures. Look at the size of the box! I'm going to start a fire, set up my tripod and post some unboxing photos soon. Stay tuned. Mad props to Everett and the entire crew at Springboard Media in Philadelphia, PA. He got five units in today and I managed to grab the last one.

Post your specific questions in the comments below and I'll do my best to answer them.
See 28 photos of the new MacBook Pro unboxing on my ZDNet blog - The Apple Core.

Jason-
One question we all have about the MBP - what's the real world battery life. I know you can't answer it immediately, that's number one.
Secondary questions:
-how hot does it get
-how's the build quality (how does it feel, How well does the unit close and latch?), Does the screen touch the keyboard leading to oil spots?
-How's the built in sight? Good low light performance? Tracking? How well does the mic pick up for chat/voip (my concern with dropping the external isight).
-How bright is the improved screen
-How loud are the speakers? Do they sound like real speakers yet? Can you actually turn them up loud enough to watch a DVD?
-Trackpad- any new programability in the system prefs?

Can you use Front Row with the Macbook closed? For instance, can you use the remote to wake it from sleep, pop in a dvd, and use the macbook as a portable media center without opening it?

Re: "Can you use Front Row with the Macbook closed?"
Probably not, the IR (from what I understand) actually works via the iSight camera (built-in) like the new iMacs.
P.S. I hate you Jason, I'm still waiting for my 1.83Mhz Dual for Feb 28th. ;-)

The IR sensor is on the front of the MacBook Pro between the latch button and the DVD slot. It looks like a PowerBook with a mole.

Re: info about using Front Row with the lid closed.
Yes, you can. Apple has said that when you close the lid, it goes to sleep. Use the remote to wake it back up and launch Front Row and it runs just fine. The IR sensor is on the front of the computer right beside the display release button.

The manual says that you can wake the MBP from sleep by pressing a button on the remote.

ACtually, in the pictures it show that the IR receiver is to the left of the sleep indicator.

Got the last one at Springboard? I thought ogrady had one coming from the Apple Store?

> Probably not, the IR (from what I understand) actually works via the iSight camera (built-in) like the new iMacs.
By the way, the new iMacs don't work that way either (contrary to some early reports). The IR sensor on the iMac is behind the Apple logo.
so where are pictures inside the box and of the actual macbook?

I couldn't wait until Weds when I heard that Springboard had them. Prolly going to sell my 120GB 2.0 that's coming on Weds. What can I say? I'm obsessive about these things!

I just shot 60+ photos and I need to format them, etc. I hope to have them up in an hour or two. Sorry guys, but it takes time! (Plus I haven't even really had a chance to play with it yet!)
Patience young jedi, patience.

Please, please, please break the news on the battery life?
Posted by: Slick coder at February 20, 2006 10:07 PM
I ordered mine from CDW, I am 21 in line there. I hope the fact that your reseller got 5 means that other resellers are getting them as well.
Posted by: Aaron Kivett at February 20, 2006 10:25 PM
Hooray! Bring on the pix.

Very exciting! Mine won't be arriving for 2 weeks.
My questions would be:
- battery life (dying to know)
- boot up time
- build quality
- heat

Does the screen have the same horizontal line defect that plagued the last rev PB?
Posted by: GeoffRuth at February 20, 2006 10:52 PM
I'm live blogging the pictures on my ZDNet blog:

Hmmm... clearly you're not editing these on your MacBook. That or you're on dial-up. Not sure which...

mine left shanghai yesterday; fedex says it left anchorage a little after 1 p.m. tomorrow?
Posted by: elearn at February 20, 2006 11:20 PM
It's officially a consipiracy. Nobody wants to answer the battery life question, not even new owners...
Posted by: Jesse at February 20, 2006 11:42 PM
Pardon the remedial nature of this question, but what exactly is the dvi>vga cord for??
Posted by: spanky at February 21, 2006 7:13 AM
One of the burning questions in my mind is wireless range. Please post some range comparisons against the aluminum PowerBooks.

Battery life????????????
Posted by: jimmytrue at February 21, 2006 10:30 AM
How often does the fan come on? More or less than the PowerBook 1.5 or 1.67? How loud? More or less than the 1.5 or 1.67?
Thanks in advance for anyone's answer.

My MacBook Pro has a very annoying whine to it. So bad that I'm thinking of ebay'ing it and switching back to my iBook. I'm sensitive to migraines, and this is bad enough to trigger them. No computer is worth that. It appears to be the backlight inverter. The sound is much reduced when full bright and completely disappears when the backlight is off. If I apply pressure to the back of the screen, the sound also disappears. Is anybody else having this problem?
