The Apple Core: iTunes Phone on the Cheap (Updated)

mass-storage-sync.jpgDon't have US$300 to shell out for the new Motorola SLVR iTunes Phone 2.0 that I mentioned yesterday? Then make your own.

Tea Vui Huang's Mass Storage Synchronizer is an iTunes add-on that allows owners of some Sony Ericsson, Nokia, Samsung and PalmOne Treo phones and PDAs to use iTunes to manage their songs, and sync the songs to the phone - just like the Motorola ROKR and SLVR.

UPDATE (2006-0203):
Back in September the PowerPage's Emory Lundberg posted a story about SyncTunes a Freeware application for Mac OS X which lets you push items from iTunes to a removable storage card, such as an MMC, Memory Stick Duo Pro or SD - making it simple to manage content on your device. SyncTunes transfers files to Palm PDAs, Sony PSP, Sony Ericsson K750/P910/W800i, Siemens SX1 (Symbian s60), and generic MP3 players.

Read the rest of the story on my ZDNet Blog: The Apple Core.

Um, hello? Missing Sync for Palm is the bomb for syncing your Palm to your Mac. It includes the ability to sync iTunes playlists to either the internal memory (not a good idea) or SD card. I then use Aerotunes with a skin that looks like iTunes and voila, iTunes phone. I can't purchase from the phone, but so what.
