MacBook nano in January?
I've been calling for a MacBook nano for a while now and evidence is mounting that Apple is working on such a beast. Although there are many counter points to the argument (no optical drive?) an ultra-notebook/tablet could fill the hole left by the PowerBook 12-inch quite nicely.AppleInsider is reporting that Apple is working on an Ultra Portable Mac based on flash memory:
Apple Computer could introduce an "ultra-portable PC" that employs NAND-based flash memory in time for the January Macworld trade show in San Francisco, one Wall Street analyst says. UBS Investment Research analyst Ben Reitzes said this week his proprietary checks indicate Apple is working on "ultra-portable PCs" and even notebooks equipped with NAND flash memory in order to speed up boot times.
"We believe these new products could start in notebook products with combo-drives (NAND and HDD) or ultra-portables (NAND only), and could be released in time for MacWorld," Reitzes told clients.

Now that Apple took my advice and killed the term PowerBook, what will the Ultra Portable Mac be called? I need names here people - NAMES!technorati tags:Apple, UltraPortable, MacWorldExpo

MacBook Mini?

How'bout Maclet, or Macpad?
Posted by: Norbert Stachel at June 15, 2006 1:36 PM
Sadly, I'd guess they'd follow their latest trend, and it'll be be MacBook Tablet or MacBook Pad...or possible MacTablet, or MacPad. "MacBook Ultra" wouldn't be terrible. But my votes would be for "iTab" (which comes bundled with a case of saccharin cola), "PacMac" (which comes bundled with the new eponymous video game), or the "MacTabulous 9000xrs". With THAT name, I'd buy two.

How about these: MacPod, iDesk, iPad, MacPad, MacFolio, MacBrief, MacBook Light, MacBoss, MacJotter or maybe Filomac ;-}

MacPad or Mac Micro.

Yeah, I think as well, MacBook mini would be most likely. And the "iMac" will soon be just "Mac".

I myself am partial to Macbook Lite. Not terribly interesting but good for you (or rather, your wallet.)

While I like the idea of a smaller macbook, a flash powered macbook, and a mac tablet...Scrapping the DVD drive would kill the portability factor I think. Wish there were some way to slim a drive down more
