iPhone Battles Recliner (Verdict: iPhone Loses Badly)

Apple iPhone crushed by recliner couchEarlier we brought you the iPhone v N95 Battle Royale Рa much fairer fight than battling a recliner couch. This time the Apple iPhone goes up against the reclining mechanism of kwarren’s couch. And, as we would expect, the iPhone loses…badly.
Apparently, this guy’s not-even-one-month-old iPhone slipped in between the seat cushions of his reclining couch. Getting up and folding the couch back into it’s upright position basically caused the steel bits underneath the seat to crunch the iPhone into an unholy mess of glass and metal. (Thanks KennM)

Two iPods and a Mic-ro-phone

The iSpin is a mixer that uses two docked iPods as inputs, and provides a range of effects like reverb, flange, hi/low pass filter and scratching sounds. While this would be fine for some DJs, it won’t suit everyone because you can’t beat-match with it.

Meeting Steve Jobs

The image “http://www.myiphone.com/gallery/files/2/SimonSteve.jpg” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors.WiebeTech (and former NewerTech) CEO James Wiebe blogs about his impromptu run-in with Steve Jobs back in the day:

Steve Jobs walked into the room, as all oxygen in the room exited simultaneously.
We were seven feet apart.
He said: “We don’t like it when you introduce accelerator cards which are faster than our computers.” (At that time, I was the CEO of Newer Technology, which ultimately sold somewhere around 150K+ CPU accelerator cards for Macs.)
Well, that was a nice Howdy Do.

Vincent Nguyen, Editor of MyiTablet (formerly MyiPhone), SlashGear and SlashPhone shares a similar story about his meeting with The Steve.

So when I got to meet Steve at D5 the other day, I was like a kid on Christmas morning again (only with less egg-nog). I almost expected an Apple-flavored electric shock when we shook hands; what I didn’t expect was to get slapped with a legal threat.
Turns out, Steve isn’t such a great fan of MYiPhone as we are about the phone itself. His comment to me about the site was “I recommend you changing the name, we have a team of lawyers to go after that kind of stuff.”

TinyBuddy Yet Another AIM Client for iPhone (from AOL)

There’s a new web-based instant messaging client for the iPhone, and it’s kind of, sort of, from AOL. It’s TinyBuddy, written by AOL employee James Burke and hosted by the AOL Greenhouse.
It’s not an official AOL project, but Burke’s used his up-close knowledge of how AIM works to make a instant-messaging client for iPhone that’s a bit different than all the others when it comes to security.

New iMac Chiclet Keyboard Leaked

Date: Friday, July 27th, 2007, 09:08
Category: iMac

See that? That’s the rumored, “super slim,” brushed aluminum keyboard said to be accompanying Apple’s new iMac computer. It certainly appears to share the key design of the MacBook like we heard but seeing “Photoshop” in the exif data doesn’t give us a high degree of confidence here. Regardless, a forum jockey over at the Rhapsody Apple forum in Hong Kong will sell you the keyboard (s/he has more than one) for 1,200 of the local stuff or about $153.40.

There’s a pretty convincing five photo gallery apr√©s jump. Right down to the Apple Development Team sticker on the bottom (with serial and barcode) thats bound to get someone fired.
Do you love it or hate it?

Chinese iPhone Ripoff

CECT, one of the most prolific rip-off artists in China (the world?), has released another Apple iPhone clone.
Apparently, the CECT P168 wasn’t enough for the clone factory, they had to have another go at the iconic Apple iPhone. The CECT 599 rocks a slightly smaller 3.2 inch 240×400 touchscreen display, but loses the navigation hard keys in favor of a more iPhone-esque minimalistic style.
For about $150 USD, you get Bluetooth, 1.3 megapixel camera, stereo speakers, and the ability to play video files (but only as big as 176√ó144 pixels) – all in a 90 gram body.

Six more pictures after the jump…

Fake Chinese iPod?

Posted by:

Category: iPhone

A reader sent in this photo of a supposedly Chinese iPhone, but KennMSr calls it a…

FAKE!
That picture has to be a photochopped image because the iPhone is on display at an Apple store (notice the black security tether).
Unless Apple made the U.S. iPhones language agnostic (like all Macs) – but there has been no mention of this feature.
Besides, if that was the case then the carrier logo still would probably be AT&T not ChinaMobile – even though they’re the world’s largest cell carrier with 296M subscribers.

Anyone want to translate the screen for us?
Keep in mind, like the crashed iPhone picture, it’s really easy to add a photo to iPhone (via iPhoto or Aperture) and display it in full screen mode.
